Leaving the Country

from the mom

My husband truly knows the way to my heart. Defying all good common sense, we left Thursday and drove to dinner in Vancouver, British Columbia. No one could have been happier about this than Ben who celebrated when we crossed into Canada. No one could have thought this idea more ridiculous than Kyri who would have preferred not to celebrate her mother's birthday in her car seat. We found the Old Spaghetti Factory in Gastown and then took the long way (wrong way) back to our hotel. Apparently age has not helped me read a map.

Friday morning we took a quick trip to Lynn Canyon where we verified that our children are not afraid of heights. The swaying suspension bridge 166 feet over the swirling river was no problem for either of them.
We did a quick drive through Stanley Park and planned to be across the border for lunch in the U.S. at a work retreat for M. However, while getting in to Canada on Thursday only took us 5 minutes, getting back to the U.S. on a Friday took us 65 minutes.

Vancouver is beautiful....A lovely place to visit. But the 15% tax on everything and the 32% gas tax made for a gloomy picture of what the U.S. could look like next year if some get their way. I like self-determination A LOT.

More on our weekend later....
