from the mom
From our recent hospital stay:
Nurse: What vaccinations has Ben had?
Me: He just had two at two months and reacted.
Nurse: What were they?
Me: (wincing) Polio and HIB
Nurse: Ok. You're not going to give him anymore, are you?
Me: No.
Nurse: And your daughter? Have you vaccinated her?
Me: (wincing) No.
Nurse: Good. Don't. I wouldn't vaccinate my own children today.
And that was that.
The pediatric attending physician said upon reviewing his history: "I would give him a tetanus; I'm not too worried about anything else."

Oh SO nice! Our pediatrician is good about letting us pick and choose. We've not had any battles either.
Wow, just wow. I'm far more used to hearing stories of badgering by pediatricians and family doctors to get parents to give the whole battery of immunizations to their kids!
A doctor's office that doesn't try to cram in all the shots they can; R, you've found a gem!
Very cool. I love living in this crunchy town sometimes. :)
Interesting! Based on your recommendation a while back, I recently read Dr. Sears' vaccine book. I need to blog about it (because I took 14 pages of notes) but with family in town haven't found the time yet. I'm SO glad I read this book. We haven't vaccinated but now I think we'll do three or four of them for Clara. We were going to do Tetanus for Meredith but then I read that it's not a childhood disease. It feels so great to be empowered. I can't believe I waited so long to read more on this subject--probably because I was scared everything was so biased. But I feel Dr. Sears at least tried to be fair.
