You Made Your Face Pretty

from the mom

Tonight I mentioned to M that I could use some new makeup and that Estee Lauder had a free gift "with purchase" (is that an oxymoron or what?). I used to take advantage of these specials in my 20s. They always come with lipsticks that look good on me and I am incapable of picking out a lipstick on my own. I always pick some color that looked good in the tube and find it garish on. He thought it was a good idea. So when I picked him up from work we ran to the mall.

I made several mistakes: 1) I asked the cosmetics clerk for a recommendation for foundation. 2) I mentioned I had small children. I wanted to pick up my foundation and gift bag and go. She proceeded to give me a full makeover "for the tired mother." When she asked about my dark hair and light skin and learned I was of Irish extraction, she wanted to do even more for me since we shared a common heritage. I was so tired I sat there despite seeing myself transformed into Tammy Faye. I hate heavy makeup.

When M and the kids showed up to see what was taking so long, Ben came running up, stared at me and said, "You made your face pretty, Mommy." I just hope he isn't attracted to Vegas showgirls in the future.

His father also loved it. Perhaps I need to do a little more to spruce myself in the future. I've heard, "Your face is pretty, Mommy" at least three times tonight. Which is pretty nice to hear.

When I put on lipstick, D1 stares at me and asks, "Why did you paint your lips red?" Guess she's a natural Victorian.

LOL. I'm sure it was worth it to hear the compliments. :)

Free makeup is fun! Do you like the foundation? I'm sure you looked good, but I think we all prefer the way we do our makeup over the way others may do it for us.
