The Long Ride

from Kyri

I rode FOREVER in the car today. Ben and I ate three snack bags of veggie chips, cookies, and cinnamon graham sticks we were soooo bored. I read all my books and I told my parents how stupid I thought this whole idea was. I told them a lot. (And they told me Ben was a much better travel companion.)

Mom says Dad is pretty amazing (and a tough act to follow for some guy who wants to marry me some day). He surprised her with a trip to a place called Leavenworth.

I was really excited about the pool until Dad took me in it. It was a lot scarier up close. Ben thought so too but he watched some kids playing and jumping until he finally worked up the nerve to jump in with Daddy. Mom took me upstairs because I was so scared and then I decided it wasn't so bad and I wanted to go back. She says I'm fickle. But I like this place where we are staying. Someone left the tissue boxes where I could reach them and rip up all the tissue. I rip it up and then Ben tries to get me to clean it up and patiently shows me how to put it in the garbage. I like to make him happy, so I do it, and then I take it out again. "No, Kyri, no," he says.

Tonight we ate Italian food because it reminds Mom and Dad of their honeymoon. (Whatever that is.) I liked it a lot. Ben and I stuffed ourselves with bread, and then I ate carrots, and pasta until I could barely breathe. Mom and Dad said we were a little rowdy and Mom made a wish that when they celebrate in 5 years, they will be alone. What does that mean?
