Grammys and Grammys and The Tie

from the mom

I have to admit that I sat through the Grammy Awards last night. It has been A LONG time since I did so, but I was curious to watch Amy Winehouse perform. She is an amazing artist with a serious self-destructive bent which puts her on the short list for Celebrities Most Likely To Not Survive 2008. There was a little irony when she sang "I Won't Go to Rehab, No, No, No" when she was briefly released from rehab to perform for the Grammys. There was a whole lot less award presentation and long thank-you speeches and more performances. I wasn't too impressed with most but Josh Groban and Andrea Bocelli performing "The Prayer" as a finale was a true highlight. Also notable was Alicia Keys performance, and Vince Gill taking a comedic pot shot at Kanye West's arrogance.

I have more thoughts on grandparents, particularly about my other grandmother who taught me some of life's most important lessons. But I'll get to part 2 later; part 1 seemed more urgent as my mom's mom is fading very quickly and not likely to be alive in a month or two. My mom read her what I wrote this weekend and she (usually very talkative) listened but didn't comment.

We bought Ben a tie and he wore it to church this weekend. It is brown and blue and white and he told his dad that he needed to wear his brown and blue tie too. So they went to church looking very related and very dapper.

Did you get a photo of your guys in their ties?

I was wondering if you got a photo, too.

The back-up band for Amy Winehouse is simply amazing. The sound production on her CD is also fantastic. I bought it on sale a few weeks ago, but J and I were both shocked to hear some hard-core cussing--I forgot to buy the radio edit version!

Ah, losing a parent. It is so very hard. My love and prayers to you and your family.

No photo YET. I still need to change the batteries in the d-camera. The tie was purchased for an upcoming special occasion and I will be certain to acquire pictures then. Stay tuned.
