from the mom
M and I dream of living in a foreign country someday. We were thinking in 12-14 years for 6 months. Until now.
Now we're thinking it would be nice to go for 4 years beginning in January of '09. Not that I'm depressed about the presidential candidate field or anything.

I would think that 6 months would be a long time to be separated from your kids.

Yeah, we'll probably run into Rosie O'Donnell and Alec Baldwin on their way back into the country....
LOL. I was thinking something along the lines of what Mike said before I read his post. Not that they left!
I'm not too excited about any of the candidates either. I'm still undecided. Since no one is motivating us, does that mean we lose? I hate to think that.
Huckabee doesn't seem too bad...
JonPaul was mentioning last night that there isn't much of a choice. He's been researching for a report he has to do for school. I think it's really opened his eyes to understand some of the things we've been telling him. And to understand that (maybe) Mom & Dad do know a thing or two :)
Huckabee hasn't governed a small state well. He is not a true conservative; he is more about advancing his vision of government than limiting it. Some of his policies are downright liberal. Check him out addressing the NEA. He doesn't stand a chance in the general election thus guaranteeing a Clinton or Obama presidency and if something weird happened, he would follow in the path of GW Bush in alienating the majority of the country and guaranteeing the Democrats a long rule in two branches of government. He actually reminds me a lot of another Southern governor who became president. He was of another party but the same in fitness for the presidency.
It is so hard for me to be opinionated. (HA, HA!)
I like Fred Thompson but he isn't running like he plans to win. I think he jumped in to pull the very moderate candidates to the right a little more. The conservative right, not the religious right which is a very different thing and usually loses its conservative principles when elected.
Right now, I'm voting McCain. I think he's realistic about Iraq, and immigration policy has no perfect answers. We have to have someone producing in this country as the Baby Boomers quit making products and start retiring or working less. We're already lagging economically but if we can keep our factories producing we might be able to support them. Without an influx of young workers, it won't happen. I'm hoping McCain won't raise taxes but Clinton/Obama most definitely will. So what are you going to do.
Clarification: I meant Carter not B. Clinton when I referred to another Southern governor.
This is maybe the most important election of my time. I am 59. I never thought I would see an African-American,a woman, a Mormon and a minister in the top running spots. Keep talking, reading and listening as you have been doing.
