Be Careful What You Say

from the mom

All parents of toddlers/preschoolers know that you have to watch what you say or you will hear yourself echoed by little ears. I learned this as a nanny when I heard my little charge say one day: "Stupid Maryland driver." Since her parents were stupid Maryland drivers I was a little nervous.

Now I get to hear exactly what I sound like on a day-to-day basis. Fortunately my sins lay in other areas than foul language. So I rarely hear anything horrible. But nothing gets past my boy.

"What on earth!" is a new favorite. I still laugh whenever I hear: "Mommy is sooooo tired." (He couldn't be more accurate.)

This morning he was still waking up when I drove him to school. He still sleeps with a pacifier, a humbling thing for his parents but more about our pride than any life-long damage done to him. So he had it on the way to school, insisting on taking it and his blanket in the car. When we pulled up to the school I said, "Ok, we're here. Lose the passy." To which he responded: "Lose the blanket."
