Life Interrupted

from the mom

Our life was interrupted yesterday when the Kirby people came to the door. I'm usually resistant to anyone selling anything and in particular to people who disguise it as giving you something and then try to sell you something. But our carpets are disgusting and even my bi-weekly spot-cleaning hasn't been doing it. So when they offered to shampoo an area for free I said, "Well, ok then." They acted like they would be there an hour and the kids were napping AT THE SAME TIME so it seemed providential.

Three+ hours and 30+ sale pitches later our carpet looked fabulous. Well as fabulous as possible. It is still old and white, the stupidest color ever for carpet. M was home, the kids were long up, hungry, and cranky. It was nearly 7 and all the furniture from the dining room was in the kitchen. We broke down and went to the nearest restaurant we could think of.

Ben had been upstairs the whole time and missed the whole thing. When he came down, he said, "Oh what's a mess!" or perhaps, "Where's the mess?" as the living room and dining room were empty. Then, "Poor couch. Couch is gone." "All done DVDs." You get the drift. We were laughing and the thing I loved best is that he really wasn't that bothered. If we'd been robbed of all our earthly possessions it would have been fine by Ben. As long as he got dinner. What a great way to be.

Today we get to move the furniture back. Fun, fun.

Kirby people NEVER leave. We made the mistake of offering to let them do the couch one time half an hour before we had to leave for somewhere. She hadn't even finished unpacking all the attachments before we had to go. I just can't see myself trying to clean house with something that complicated.

Now would be a good time to make any rearrangements in how you place the furniture. (This being said as I have to bear down and finally get the basement cleared out and reorganized to make room for the new treadmill.)

I had no idea they were still around! So how'd you get out of buying it?
