True Love

from the mom

At 11:59pm last night my husband said, "I'm so glad you're here." I was incredulous.

"Really? If we weren't here, you could be sleeping right now."

"But I wouldn't be. I would be awake and bored."

Could I have married a more perfect man?

He flew cross-country with an 11-month old with a cold with a wife who had less than an hour of sleep the night before. He himself had less than an hour of sleep and went driving near the Portland Airport at 3am with the instrument of sleep deprivation herself.

Upon arriving in (the other) Portland (Maine), we settled into our comfy room at the Marriott ready to catch up on some sleep. But after hours of napping, our beautiful lass was awake. And not happy. We played with her, nursed her, bounced her...all for naught. Around 11:20, it occurred to me that I had eaten two meals the whole day and that we could be up for several more hours. I sent Wonderful Man out to late-night scavenge for food in Portland. He walked out the door and the girl became hysterical and proceeded to throw up....Six times in a 20 minute period. She was inconsolable. She threw up on the bed, on her jammies, on me. Thinking she was done, I ran a bath (she and I both had puke that required much clean-up) and stripped off her pjs. She then proceeded to vomit again and wet all over the bathroom floor at the same time. She was crying still in the bath (which is the last resort to end her crying normally) and vomited there one last time. Three minutes later, her daddy walked in with food and she flashed him a grin. Huh? I cleaned her up, he dried her off, put her in clean pjs, and she fell asleep.

And he's glad we came?! What a prince.
