from the mom
Kyri and I took a walk yesterday in the sunshine. When we arrived back home I left her in her stroller for a few minutes while I sat on the porch and looked at the mail. She suddenly burst into tears and her lip puckered up. Then I realized she had a yellow jacket in between her arm and side. I swiped at him and he disappeared. Then I got her out of there, left a message for her doctor, called my mom, and nursed her. She is a tough girl and despite having this horrible welt looking thing on her arm, she is quite chipper. If anything it helped her sleep 8 consecutive!! hours last night.
I learned a few things:
-Yellow jackets don't leave their stinger like honey bees. (This came about thanks to Google when the doctor's assistant told me to make sure I got the stinger out and I couldn't find one.)
-Lavendar essential oil is great for reducing swelling. I put some on, the swelling decreased. Then it gradually increased and I did it again with the same affect.
-Motherhood is good for developing bravery. I was so mad at that yellow jacket I didn't even care that he could sting me. I was just glad he only stung Kyri twice.
-I'm glad I have a mom. She was calm when I was freaking out that Kyri might be allergic.

Poor Kyri! At least you know that she's not life-threatening-ly allergic to these kinds of stings.
I'm so disappointed that we were in Seattle twice last week and never managed to see you. =(
