from the mom
I was tagged a month ago to bore you with 7 random facts about myself. I've been too busy to think, let alone blog, but when I realized it had already been a month, I finished up my list (by the computer). Here goes:
1.) I've been to Greenland. It's true. On a flight back from Germany, our plane had to make an emergency stop for fuel there. Then the cargo doors froze open and we had to sit there for HOURS while they de-iced. I was 7. My brother was 17 months. We were on the plane a total of 24 hours. I can't believe my parents survived that.
2.) I've lived in 6 states (Oregon, Texas, Washington, California, Maryland, Virginia) and 3 countries (U.S., Germany, England).
3.) I've attended 7 colleges (Clatsop Community College, Biola University, Portland Community College, Concordia University, Oak Hill College, Middlesex University, Lewis and Clark College). Yes, I did finally graduate after 7 years.
4.) I lived 3 blocks from Monica Lewinsky and took a class at the same college at the same time she was there. These things happened before anyone knew who she was so I might have been in class with her. Who knows? I obviously wasn't a big influence on her however.
5.) On my 23rd birthday, 7 of us dressed up like we were beauty pageant contestants from Canada and went out on the town in Portland. It was my roommate's idea and she had our banner things made. No one so much as even questioned that we weren't the real thing. We felt guilty when we got a free carriage ride downtown because the driver was so impressed by us. I was Miss Vancouver.
6.) I've met Brendan Fraser. He went to college with a friend Mandy and we ran into him at the movies in Portland. He was very friendly and even remembered my name to introduce me to one of his friends a few minutes later.
7.) I ran into my college flame at my bachelorette party. He was quite a bit less committed to his faith than me and so I never actually went out with him. Every time he asked I would run to my room and tell God that the next time he asked I was going. But my roommate and best friend couldn't stand him and their belligerence and my moral standards kept me from actually dating him. I did go to his concerts (he was in a band called Phlegm Candy), one of his performance art shows, and eat with him in the college cafeteria. We worked in the same building and spent hours talking. The night before my wedding my friends took me to a place that had two guys on piano playing requests and bantering back and forth. They made me go up and sit next to one of them and while I was there I realized the other pianist was this guy. My college roommate was there too and she and I passed him a note. But we had to leave before he did. Considering he was from Colorado and we went to school together in southern California, running into him in Portland was pretty weird. It was a little surreal.
And there you have it....

Those weren't boring at all! I too liked #5. How come I never heard that story before? :)
Rachelle, you have had such an interesting life. That's awesome!
I love the pics of your recent excursions, too. The kids are so cute together.
Not boring by a long sea mile! I was highly entertained (still laughing). Thanks for sharing! That was fun.
Even your boring, random facts are interesting and unordinary. You're such a cool person.

You are definitely an interesting woman Rachelle, and so educated also. Is Ben always that lovey to Kyri??
