The Story of You

from the mom

I started keeping journals for my children a few months ago. Someone gave me a journal for Kyrie and as I started to jot down things about her I thought she might like to know someday, I realized I should be doing the same for Ben. I don't have time to do baby books right now, and this way I keep track of information I will need someday when I do get to it. Even more importantly, I can write down the things that wouldn't be included in a baby book.

I've really enjoyed the process and the opportunity to record some of their early personality traits. It also reminds me that what I'm experiencing right now is so fleeting. Someday I will be packing them off to college or new jobs or watching them get married and be able to hand them a record of their uniqueness in my eyes (and in God's) and hopefully remind them again how much they are loved.

Have you ever thought that your blog is also a sort of journal of them, especially when you write it from their perspectives...don't know how you have the time but I'm sure they'll appreciate it all when they're older.

LOL - just what I was going to say! You should save to disc/cd your blog entries as they'll be good to have years from now. :)

I don't normally post on people's blogs, but I wanted to encourage you to continue doing this. My mom actually did it for all 4 of us Koons kids and I treasure mine. Unfortunately, there aren't as many entries as I'd like, but she wrote about what God was doing in my life and different stages and how I responded to them. To me, it's a testimony of God's faithfulness in my life as I see, from my Mom's perspective, how He's been molding me and fashioning me into the woman I am now. I think what the other girls said is great about your blog, but there is also something I love about mine because it's in my mom's handwriting ...

I actually plan to have some of the blog made into a book someday for B & K. However, for all the reasons Megan listed and because I am writing TO them, not about them, I wanted to keep journals for them.

Megan, that is an awesome thing your mom did. I've saved some letters my mom and dad have written me. They help to light the path which is what I want for my children.
