My Take On Susanna Wesley

from the mom

I've heard one times too many how Susanna Wesley, mother of 13, was such a model Christian she would throw her apron over her head and take time for prayer.

Today I prayed for grace to make it when both children had been needy for about two hours straight with no break. Dear Susanna was just trying to keep from having a nervous breakdown.

At least she knew where to turn.

I am convinced you are right.

She had one other advantage, too, which I envy. She had servants. I know they were a huge headache, and a faithful dishwasher is a useful thing to have, but dishwashers don't talk in complete sentences.

Dear Susanna was looking for the only place she could be ALONE! All moms know you can't even go to the bathroom without someone needing you instantly. Under her apron she was by herself able to focus and think a coherent thought and communicate with her Savior. Maybe wearing an apron isn't such a bad idea after all! I am just thankful that our God invented all languages including baby talk :) He most definitely understands!
Life is full -- enjoy the moment!

My dear friend Geni recently encouraged me that her busiest and most stressful times as a mother were when she had TWO children. One child was a lot of work, but achievable. Two children brought on unique situations. Number one child didn’t understand why mom no longer had enough time for her. Number two child needed all the attention an infant requires. There just didn’t seem enough of mom to go around. After the third child was born, the oldest two had each other for more entertainment hours and could at times be somewhat helpful. Now that there are nine (with one on the way), the house is filled with lots of helpers and more fun than I can express.

Honestly, I admire each and every one of you, as I’ve only experienced raising one child… VERY grateful for her, but hoping for many grandchildren! As a Grammie, I’m rolling up my sleeves and helping in any way possible & loving every minute. :) ~SIW
