from the tired mom
Thanks to all of you've who've emailed, commented, phoned or sent gifts. We're a little slow about responses to anything these days but it is ALL appreciated. I am especially appreciative of those who have expressed that they went through similar things (and everyone survived). To the moms who have told me they cried for days and thought they wouldn't make it, THANK YOU. I keep you in my mind as I pray for the strength to get through the next hour.
Kyri is still failing to thrive and today we go back to the midwife for a weight check. (Two days ago she was 6 oz. from birth weight still at 3 weeks.) I am a little hopeful that she has done better today but she did terrible yesterday and had her worst day as far as being symptomatic of low nutrition. So I don't expect much but hope to hear if we might finally be on the right track. As her father says, she is a little young to be starting to diet. But she seems intent on keeping her slim figure.
Ben keeps us laughing. I feel like I'm failing to adequately care for him but am grateful that he is very independent. He is not in the least helpful, but he does take care of himself better than some. And he takes a good nap which is a big help. Today he called one of M's coworkers cell phone. M called to report him and he was again upset to get caught. Two days ago he instant-messaged his dad at work and offered him an invitation to "chat." M thought it was funny that I would send an invite (it was my AIM name), but checked it out and saw a string of numbers.
Ben was deeply disturbed when I put Kyri in the crib for awhile today. HIS crib. (I have warned him it won't be his much longer.) He proceeded to pile a bunch of his things into it with her just to stake out his property.
I discovered Ben attempting to put a nursing pad down his shirt earlier this week. This one really concerns his dad. If I show up in a room without his sister, he gets a little concerned and goes looking for her. He likes to rock her cradle. He frequently tries to stuff her pacifier in her mouth. I finally had to hide them because she is not supposed to be using a passy until she learns to eat better.

Tell Kyrie she will never fit it to the cute clothes she got if she doesn't grow! :) Hang in there, buddy.
On Ben's nursing pad, my mom tells me that, when Megan was first born, I used to take a doll that had been given to Megan and "nurse" it alongside my mom whenever she would feed Megan. Tell Ben's dad not to worry...apparently we grow out of it. ;)
Those stories of Ben make me laugh. I wish I knew what was going on in his head. Sounds like is he already taking on the protective, big brother roll if he has to find out where she is when you don't walk in the room with her. That's so sweet, I love big brothers!
At least you don't have to stop one sibling from "nursing" on another one.
