from the mom
The Birthing Inn where I delivered had a stereo in the room. At my request M put on the Christian radio station and it was on the whole time we were there. At one point, when I was trying to hold off pushing and attempting various breathing exercises to help, the DJ introduced a song by the band Need To Breathe. Somehow it struck me as funny as my labor coaches were instructing me to "just breathe." It was a brief reprieve, but helpful.
On day two or three when I was feeling exhausted and overwhelmed, the four of us all ended up in our bed. I looked around and realized that we are a family of four now. Ah!
Thanks to everyone for your emails and comments! We've enjoyed them all, even though we haven't had a chance to respond to them all. We love hearing from people. We have enjoyed the phone calls too. My 92-year old Opa called at 6:45am the other day and woke M up. We would discourage calling at that particular time; but I learned a long time ago that you don't "have" to answer the phone if it isn't a good time. So don't feel bad about trying.
The kids have been sick so my mom stayed a few extra days. They are both in recovery and Kyrie only had a little congestion. Ben has struggled with illness and asthma symptoms for the last two months. One of the clergy from our church came and prayed for him yesterday. My mom leaves Friday and M is meeting with George Will that day to be interviewed. So Missi (bless her heart) is going to spend a little time with us as I ease into being alone with my two children!
