from Ben's mom
I sent a congratulatory email to a friend who won a national teaching award yesterday. We had been out of touch but she is one of my favorite people and so when I heard the news, I took a moment to email.
She emailed back with the sad news that her husband had decided he didn't want to be married anymore and recently divorced her. I was shocked. Not only were they active Christians (who did things like work in orphanages on their vacation) but they were one of those starry-eyed couples who were very involved with their families and had a lot in common. Sadly, I knew them both before they knew each other and encouraged them to meet. He took me up on it and stopped by her work and introduced himself and the rest is history.... Or at least that's how it was supposed to be.
She's a tough girl and still ready to do anything to reconcile. My heart bleeds for her and my prayers are with her.
I'm continually stunned at people's decisions. You think you know someone and their values and then the bomb drops. Our recent trip to Virginia turned up a lot of this and left us a little confused at to why some find it so easy to break commitments.

I'm so sorry to hear of this, Rachelle. I've felt that similar feeling of 'Wow, who knew?' and it's a real shock. I hope you don't burden yourself with any guilt over the outcome of this just because you got the ball rolling - they are making their own decisions and that is their responsibility, not yours. Ugh, that sounds so trite. Anyway, I'll pray for healing and reconciliation for your friends. Thanks for sharing.
