Random Glimpses at Our Life

from Ben's mom

Fall has arrived and with it cooler weather, higher gas/electric bills, fall colors (particularly beautiful this year), and cravings for Gingerbread lattes and anything pumpkin.

Last night, Lindsay called on her way home from massage therapy class. I love that she calls us when it is late on the East Coast. In the midst of our conversation, she said, "I'm being pulled over; call you back." I've been sent way too many of those email forwards about not pulling over at night in unpopulated places for anyone, so I was watching the clock and waiting to engage my panic button. Fortunately, not 6 minutes went by before she called back to say she had a taillight out and had only received a warning. Whew! I really like cell phones.

I'm 36 weeks and starting pre-labor already. I started pre-labor with Ben 3-4 weeks before he was born. I welcome it because it supposedly cuts down on the time you spend in hard labor. Baby Reitz decided to get more comfortable yesterday and turned completely on the side (across my front). It was much more comfortable for me (the pressure went off my breastbone and bladder) but apparently didn't work so nicely for Baby. He/she returned to head-down within minutes. I was psychologically relieved because I didn't want any movements to breech, but for a few minutes, I breathed a lot easier.

The girl's name has changed yet again and the new one throws out the middle name I had planned on because it doesn't "go." So we're back to square one on middle name but the father has ok'ed (I think) a girl's name which is a good start.

Ben threw out all the baby clothes out of the cradle today and brought me the new baby's pacifiers. He has shown some recent affection toward my stomach and now is reading his book about the boy named Ben who has a new baby brother. He may be taking steps toward accepting his new life. We hope.

I am tired. I want to nap. But I am going to do a pregnancy workout with my pregnant friend Missi this afternoon instead. I need to stretch.

I made pumpkin bread last night (from a boxed Trader Joe's mix) and it is scrumptious. I love fall!

Yay for pre-labor! We eagerly await the news of Baby Reitz' arrival. I know you guys were hoping for an October baby (vs. early Nov.) anyway. :)

And, yes, fall ... I love everything about it. (Well, maybe not the higher gas/electric bills.) :-P
