The Trip (Part 1)

from Ben's mom

Ben's father is an amazing man. He volunteered to fly cross-country with a toddler solo so that I could get back for wedding duties a day early. So I departed on Weds, Sept. 6 (also M's birthday) on an early morning flight through St. Louis. I read an entire book that day; something that hasn't been accomplished since the onset of motherhood and probably long before.

Vowed: To take some pictures.
Reality: Didn't take many. Being 8 months pregnant and traveling for 2 weeks is quite enough
.

Thursday, Sept. 7, I woke up in Brunswick, Maryland and drove 45 minutes south to Middleburg, Virginia, to The Market Salamander where Dana was the guest of honor at a Bridal Tea in her honor. Drank lots of really good tea, ate lots of little sandwiches and scones and enjoyed talking with Darcy and Emily. Then I ran a wedding errand to Chantilly, picked up a borrowed Pack 'N' Play for Ben to use later, and followed the bride to the rehearsal. (here with her dad)
The rehearsal was long, but lovely, and a happy reunion with many. Then to the rehearsal dinner, where none other than my brother (don't bother; hasn't blogged in 3+ months) sat at the table behind me. I had to leave very quickly to pick up M and Ben at Reagan National in D.C.

Practically: We don't need two cell phones.
Reality: It sure would be nice when we are traveling.

Both were very happy to see me and I was happy to hear that Ben had been a good little traveler. His dad rented him a DVD player and let him watch cartoons and he had a backpack full of new fun toys (thanks to Carrie B) that made the trip go by.

We visited until too late at the Mehrens.

Friday, Sept. 8: The three of us slept late and then went to former place of employment to say "hello" to folks and meet a friend for lunch. Then we drove past our first apartment (as a married couple and then family) and I went to get ready for the BIG EVENT. (More to come)
