My Mother's Day

from Ben's mom

I told Ben's dad that I didn't need to have anything to celebrate Mother's Day. We made a pact to go to dinner closer to Father's Day to celebrate both. I said, "no card. Don't waste money on that." He told me all his sweet sentiments instead.

But then we had a sneak preview of summer on Saturday and we were all a little antsy. We thought about Mt. St. Helens, but decided to drive to Multnomah Falls (in Oregon), one of my favorite places. It was a perfect day and Ben thought it was great to throw rocks off the bridge below the falls. We made a stop at the outlet mall (Oregon has no sales tax) and then went to the Jerusalem Cafe. This baby has a strong aversion to Mexican food and most other food but loves Mediterranean salad (cucumbers and tomatoes)and tabouli. Ben was very happy to be a grown-up and drink out of a "real" water glass (with a straw) and eat falafel and shish-kabob until we began to wonder where exactly he was fitting it.

All in all, I am not a cheap Mother's Day date. With the $50 tank of gas to get there and eating out, better think twice before asking me what I want.

$50 tank of gas?! That's not a Hallmark card, that's a Hallmark commercial!

Love the Jerusalem Cafe! My cousin married into the family that owns it so it's especially nice for us. We'll have to go there sometime together!
