Moving

from Ben's mom

In ten days we will be moving to a new condo/townhouse. Though I don't relish the idea of moving or the increased monthly expense, we are all very excited about the new place. We are going from 900 square feet to 1600. The new place has 3 bdrms, 3 bathrooms, a double car garage, a nice deck, bigger kitchen (and much better arranged) with nifty things like a microwave, garbage disposal and dishwasher. The whole place is nice and light with skylights and lots of windows and there is a park across the street with playground equipment and a duck pond. We are also right next to the AmTrak station so we will hear a lot of train whistles (some friends in the area say they like it). You can also take AmTrak to visit us and we are right there!

Ben will have a new room with his very own bathroom. He will probably share his room with his new sibling eventually and we'll use the 3rd bedroom downstairs as an office/toy room/guest room.

We have very little furniture and so I am starting to watch Craig's List for good deals. Today Ben and I found him a new IKEA chest of drawers at a garage sale for $25.

The property management company is being a little frustrating. We have a receipt for our deposit or we would have no evidence we had the place. Our application was approved; they took our money and we have heard nothing since. My email from three days ago asking for details has yet to be answered. Fortunately, I married a lawyer and if they provide lax service in the future, they will be made aware it is in their best interest to do better.

With housing in this area still skyrocketing (CNN Money predicts that housing in Olympia will go up 13+% over the next year; it has gone up more than 26% in the last two), we will probably remain in the rental market for awhile. And on the bright side, a recent legal intern from Seattle told Mike we were paying the same in rent for our new place as she did for her Seattle studio apartment.

So our apartment is stacked high with liquor boxes (the best for packing) and we already have a dozen or more packed. (We own WAY too many books.) And once again, we are sorting out who our REAL friends are. If you want to join us next Monday, we'll provide lunch, bottled water, soda, and a strenous workout.

Oh, but there'll be better beverages than water or soda....

Hmmm... reminds me of one balmy VA day 2 years ago. Wish we could be there to help out.

Congrats on the new place. I realize why you're moving. Not only because you wanted more space and better lighting, but because that will require us to come visit and try out your guest room. Good thinking! ;)

Liquer boxes...oh, good memory I have to share...lol. When I moved to VA in '98, I packed my stuff in Jose Cuervo boxes to ship over. I arrive at the HSLDA townhouse not knowing a soul and everyone was like, "Oh, we wondered what you were going to be like when we saw all those beer boxes." Hahaha, good times.

S-You and Nathan set the standard for friendship when you not only packed and moved but helped us clean! And got POURED on walking for lunch. You deserve a break this time.
J-Us liberal west-coasters. You probably didn't tell them you used the boxes after you drank the contents in your big moving party. (HA!)
K-You are definitely on the "real friends" list. THANK YOU!
