Turning a Tiny Corner

from Ben's mom

Ben is sleeping.... That is a huge answer to prayer. He still wakes himself up with pain, but where as for 24 hours he went without more than 10 minutes of consecutive sleep, he has been mostly sleeping for the last three hours. He wakes up to try and take a drink (which hurts) and I'm proud of him for trying. He has convinced us that he needs to stop his meds. He never slept on them, even the Codeine; half an hour after I was supposed to have dosed him and didn't because I was wimpy, he started really sleeping. His crying has stopped and though his breathing is labored, he seems relieved to be sleeping.

Mike and I took shifts last night. I slept the early shift (9-1) and Mike took the later (1-5:30 with a few interruptions to help me get meds down Ben). It wasn't "good sleep" but it was sleep and my spirits are much better today. At 4am, Ben indicated that he needed to watch a DVD and I was cheered as he had lost interest in everything he liked. He watched about 15 minutes of Baby Einstein, rocking in his little chair. Obviously, drugs don't affect him the way they do me. I would have been out for the count the whole night.

We still aren't sure what is wrong, but we are more and more certain that he has a very sore throat. His chest is congested too though the doctor says that it isn't showing up in normal ways. We can all hear it though in his breathing. If he had a fever and a red or spotty throat, and we would have a diagnosis of strep. But he doesn't.

Things I'm thankful for:
Sleep for all of us
Sunshine for the second day in a row
That my husband is wise and calm in these situations in contrast to me
Flowers (bright cheery daisies) delivered this morning from Ben's godparents
Comments that encourage us
PRAYERS

Glad you're getting rest and Ben is a bit better! I'll be praying for continued improvement. Wish I were close enough to bring a meal. =)

Clearly, Ben was just upset about the officiating during the Super Bowl. That would make any true Seahawks fan cry for 24 hours straight.

I'm glad that things are better and trusting that he continues to mend, and that you all get some GOOD sleep.
Love you!

Glad to hear that you all were able to get a bit of sleep. I am still concerned due to lack of diagnosis. Keep us posted. I, too, wish I was close enough to help out. Gary and I send our love. Judy
