Finding A Christmas Tree
Sometimes my parents do very strange things. Today, they took me on a ride and we got out in the snow. I love the snow but it is very cold, and so I wore my hat and mittens. Then we went for a walk in the snow and Mom and Dad talked about "the right one." Then Dad started cutting a tree and it fell over in the snow. And we put it in our car and brought it home. Then Mom and Dad put it up in our house and we started putting things on it. And Mom said, "Ben, don't touch these ornaments. They are just to look at." So we have a tree in our house. And Mom says it has something to do with the Baby Jesus.

Hey, Ben, we've got one of those trees, too! And ours has Baby Jesus underneath it, with Mary and Joseph and a shepherd and wise men and everything! The Baby Jesus set is pretty neat, but I thought it was lacking. So yesterday Addie and I put my dinosaurs around the manger, too. Daddy said it looked hilarious (he took a picture of it), but Mama says it's pretty orthodox if you're a radical creationist.

Sadly, none of the pictures we have taken in the snow have turned out well enough to post.... Sorry for that. -rlr
Aww. I've been bugging a certain person in our household whose name starts with a K-e-v-i-n to pleeeeese let us cut down a fresh tree this year, since it's so much more fun. But he's leaning toward going to a lot again. :-P So boring and non-romantic. He'll probably win since we're running short on time this year. But, it's fun to hear that other people do it RIGHT. :)
WE don't do it right. We have an artificial tree. I held out for two years after marriage, but the Christmas that found me housebound with a toddler and baby broke down my defenses. And when I discovered that I could move said tree with one hand, without showering prickles everywhere, I was converted. Probably when the kids get older we'll go back to a real tree. Or maybe I'll even start going weird like my mom and put up magnolias, or bare branches draped with white lights.
