from Ben's mom
Ben's uncle is in Nepal today and his mom suggests that he not try climbing Mt. Everest. She suspects he is getting more tired as the time goes on and using any spare time for sleeping instead of blogging. She commends him on sending a postcard from France, that was received earlier.
We are recovering from five days away from home. There is laundry to do, and apparently the maid forgot to come clean while we were gone. (Hah! Must be the working for free part.)
MJR was in Las Vegas for three days for a tax conference. He thought the conference was very good and hated Vegas. He is an unusual man and I love him for it.
Friday, I took a trip to Portland to pick MJR up at the airport. His plane didn't come in until 11pm, but I went up earlier and visited some friends I haven't really had time to talk with at any length since I left the area in 2001. Then I caught the tail-end of my matron of honor's birthday party. Ben stayed with Grammy and did very well. (Thus bringing up consideration of leaving him there when we go to California next month.)
I enjoyed the opportunity to be with my Opa for 5 days too. He and my Oma live in a retirement center in a town where we have no family and thus our visits usually consist of lunch and we turn around and go home. Opa is convalescing at my mom's and it was nice to just be together without rushing. And at 91, he is walking again with his walker after breaking his leg in a fall. He has worked very hard and endured a lot of pain so he can walk again and I admire him for his spirit.
