Grandpa Suggests Ben-Proofing the House

I overheard Mom telling Dad that Grandpa had suggested that she get some locks on the cupboards or put the cleaning supplies up really high. I suppose this is because of my recent taste-test of the dishwasher soap. Mom told Dad she was frustrated because she wanted me to learn obedience and that I knew that I was not to get in that particular cupboard.

Grandpa apparently told her that I was learning by exploring. (Yeah. That's it. I was learning by exploring. So there!) He wanted to be sure that I lived to explore a lot more.

Mom sighed as she told Dad this. "I want him to learn obedience. But I guess he can't if he's dead. So I will find a higher spot for the dishwasher soap."

Does that mean that I can play under the kitchen sink now?

The high ideals of Teaching Obedience sometimes take a temporary backseat to the more immediate problem of Keeping Child Alive. You can always move the dishwasher detergent higher, but still insist that Ben not play in that cabinet. He doesn't know the difference. :)

Yeah, I figured we could learn obedience on a cupboard filled with non-toxic substances. And she can still learn not to play with the door and wear out the child-proof latches.
