from Ben's mom
Yesterday when we came home from running errands, our neighbor Stephen (age: 12ish) was just getting off the bus from school. I said "hello" and asked how school was, etc.... He went to his door and tried to open it. He knocked, and knocked and knocked. Meanwhile, I took several trips to unload the car. He went to the bedroom windows and pounded. I asked: "Are they gone or just asleep?" "Either," he answered. This went on for 10 more minutes and I came down and told him I was upstairs and he was welcome to come up if he needed anything. He told me he was going to go to his friend Brian's; "if they come out mad asking who was banging, could you tell them it was me and I went to Brian's?" He was on his way, while I contemplated what could make one sleep through repeated banging on the window of one's window at 3 in the afternoon. (Or at any time.) I could speculate, but why? Either way, we have a case of very irresponsible parents. (Or a mother and a chain-smoking boyfriend.) It made me grateful for my own parents who were home for me.
