The Weekend

from Ben's mom

We spent Sunday afternoon with my Aunt Sandi, Uncle Rick, and cousin Noelle north of Seattle. MJR managed a second weekend golf game and then we all went on a ferry ride. It was a perfect afternoon and I remembered what is so great about the Northwest.

Monday, we were completely lazy. Even Ben slept in until 10am! Eventually after getting some work done around the house, we went up to Port Orchard to the Jarrett's big 4th party and hung out with our friends the Cooks. Jeremy is a month younger than Ben but his complete opposite. While Ben was freaking out trying to avoid touching any grass (which causes him much psychological pain for some reason), Jeremy was running up the hill, around the sidewalk, and playing with the bigger kids. Later the two boys were playing at a plastic kids play station. Jeremy was trying to saw the table; Ben was beating on the table with his hands and empty containers trying to get some kind of musical sound out of it. Ben's dad is a little worried he may not be properly socialized. His mom thinks he is going to be a sensitive musician with allergies.

On the way home, we parked on a hill in Olympia and watched some fireworks. Ben had slept the whole way, but woke up and just looked. He had no comment on fireworks. He is neither for nor against. But he would like you to know that he didn't jump once at the sound of fire crackers, etc...that went on all weekend. He hopes this makes up for jumping (and sometimes crying) every Sunday when they ring the bells. He would like you to know he is not a complete wimp.

Today I used a coupon I had for a free designer hair cut. My hair was cut by a "hair designer"--in one of those fancy salons where every one is an orange color from fake tanning and none of the employees is currently wearing his or her own natural hair color. My stylist looked exactly like Monica from Friends and even talked like her. She was very excited about a weekend fashion show. My hair looks good but I don't plan to go back. My haircut would normally be $40+ and if I am going to spend that kind of money, I might as well take up golf.
