from Ben's mom
Yesterday, I watched with joy as Londoners celebrated the choice of their city for the 2012 Olympics. I was on the treadmill and glad for the chance to see a few of my favorite sites without renting Notting Hill.
Then this morning, I woke up to the grief of a terrorist attack on the fair city. Not only do I have a few friends there, but once you have been to London, something about it gets in your blood. There is a little piece of my heart there.
The English are hearty and independent and though the U.S. is a giant melting pot of cultures and influence, we get our "You can't stop us" attitude from the British. They have bucked the euro until now, and my guess is the support for Blair's Iraq policy will only increase now that they too have been attacked. Just like New York City, London will respond with, "Don't think you can get away with doing that to us."
