from Ben's mom
I found a lamp shade at a garage sale over the weekend for $.50. It fit/matched perfectly a little lamp I picked up at a garage sale in Leesburg. It was a great nightstand lamp. The shade is one of those that has little wires holding it on to the bulb, just like the last one. The last one met its demise when it got pushed up against the bulb and it burned a hole through it. Fortunately, that smoldering smell was quickly detected by my (at the time) pregnant self, and a fire was averted. We'll be more careful with this one. I'm really thankful to finally have a shade again!
To celebrate, I decided to have another small house fire today. I lit a tealight in the bathroom while I was in the shower but threw the match in as the tealight was just about gone. Imagine my surprise to see flames leaping up as I got out of the shower. Destroyed: the holder and a plastic cup (which I used to extinguish the flames). Saved: MJR's glasses and case. In question: a small spot on the bathroom counter I need to work on some more. Tested: my engagement/wedding rings that were caught in the flames but are of very fine metal.
