Melting Pot

from Ben's mom

Last Saturday night, our good friends Dave and Connie treated us to a dining experience! First Dave gently detached the umbilical cord that binds Ben and me together and asked me to find a babysitter for the boys. Now, I had to leave Ben when he was much younger and I was still working, but since I quit work last May (a happy, happy day) I have done my best to not leave him for more than an hour or so. I have left him with my parents but that is entirely different. My mom was there when he hit the oxygenated world and she knows what he needs and when he needs it as well as I do. A babysitter might not know what each little fuss means or that when he rubs his ear he's tired, or the difference between rubbing his ear and the side of his face. So it was a big moment!

Now, back to the real topic. Dave had asked me to help find a nice restaurant where we could celebrate--Connie's birthday, friendship, etc.... (MJR adds: Getting R to leave Ben at home.) So I threw out--"Olive Garden nice? or Melting Pot nice?" Connie piped up: "Melting Pot. Let's go there."

Many of you have experienced the Melting Pot. And you know it is worth risking not being able to pay the electric bill to go there. Now WE KNOW. WOW!

We had the full experience-cheese fondue, salad, entrees, and chocolate fondue. Dinner was 3 1/2 hours long and we had a great time talking as adults. (Connie and I were commended on not talking about Luke and Ben, though in all fairness, by dessert we were getting anxious to see how they were doing.) It was a great evening and we are already looking forward to the next time we can go.

Wow! Sounds like the kind of place to pick when a rich relative comes to town and wants to treat you for dinner. =) I have never been there, but I've heard raves about it. The chocolate sounds especially intriguing.

Ooh!! I'm so glad you went to the Melting Pot. It's THEEEEEE best place to eat out. What a treat! :) I also applaud you re: getting the babysitter. I'm sorry we're not closer so we could look after him. :-( But I know you'll find someone who will work out just fine.

Melting Pot is also a great date restaurant...

We discussed that and decided it was a good date restaurant if you knew the person well. I can think of a couple of first (that I made last as well) dates that would have been torturous to have had to keep up a conversation that long. -rlr

I think that you're right about that. I guess I was just biased because I married the girl I took on a couple dates there.
