Leaving the Jet-Set World

from Ben's mom

It's official. I am without a cell phone in the modern world. Please don't remind me that my phone didn't get reception in our apartment and I have no car and thus it took VERY long walks out of our neighborhood to call anyone. And don't remind me that my generous husband has no problem sharing his cell phone with me. I just need to grieve for awhile. And maybe grieve that Northern Virginia phone number that I had for 4 years--longer than any phone number I've had as an adult. And yes, you can reach me at my home number.

Ha! This reminds me of our situation ... we can't get reception in our house either and have to walk out to the front curb to call people. The only reason we've hung on to both our cell phones is because we need the long distance minutes (it's the same price as paying for long-distance on our land line).

It was such a wrench to change my cell phone from my familiar VA number to a local GA number. Funny how attached we can get to innocuous signposts that identify our home and diagnose us as having put down roots, like having to re-program the radio dials in your car!
