Sports Teams

Thanks to Uncle Mark for his advice about sports teams. I was sad to read it because I watched Mom really believe that the Seahawks could win Sunday and then had to see how very upset she became when they lost. I was glad that I could play with Jeremy and be distracted. I wisely took a nap at the end of the game to relieve the pressure and apparently that was the part I wanted to miss anyway.

Dad always says if he cheers for a team, they will lose. The years he cares about the Yankees, they suffer defeat. He told us before the game Sunday that the Seahawks would not win. It was then that Mom and I knew that he had truly become a Washingtonian. He cared. He wanted them to win--therefore, he faced the inevitable. They would lose.

Until I read Uncle Mark's post, I was tempted to cheer for a winning team. (The Patriots looked liked a good choice.) But now I realize that the Bigger/Reitz curse is nothing more than an opportunity to develop character. Whatever character is. And like Mom says, "Ben, you'd much rather lose at sports, than at love." So next fall, I will bring out my blue and grey and start cheering for the Seahawks once again.
