Hollywood--a little out of touch or a snub?

from Ben's mom

The Oscar nominations are out and surprise, surprise--The Passion of the Christ was given nothing more than mere nods for cinematography, original score, and makeup. Where are the deserved nominations for Best Director--Mel Gibson, Best Actor--Jim Caviezel, or Best Picture? Not even a Best Supporting Actress for Maia Morgenstern (Mary)?

We know Hollywood finds it embarrassing to select nominees that have won the People's Choice Award but how can she legitimately pan the 8th highest-grossing movie of all time? And more importantly, one that the most highly-respected movie critics gave thumbs up to.

While some reports suggested Passion was a shoe-in for an Oscar nomination, Newsweek called it back in October, when they predicted the film would be snubbed. They reported that a lot of Hollywood Academy voters refused to even view the picture, even while Hollywood insiders recognized that there could be fallout from Christians that could lead to a boycott. Hollywood fell back on the anti-Semitic line, even while a poll showed that the movie actually changed Christians attitudes toward Jews for the better. In reality, Hollywood would rather glorify the deviant lifestyle and sexual research (which involved molesting children) of Alfred Kinsey.

Obviously the recent election taught us that Hollywood is out of sync with our values. Now we've learned that despite their candidate losing, we still aren't very scary.

Yeah, pretty messed-up. My only consolation is that Fahrenheit 9-11 didn't get anything either. I also hate the fact that Million Dollar Baby (disturbingly pro-euthanasia) got so many accolades. -Amy
