from Ben's mom
Yesterday I visited a chiropracter for the first time. I've always been a little nervous about chiropracters. A few of you may remember that the day I went in to labor with Ben I lost feeling in my left leg and walked around dragging it. Well, in a year, I've never lost the feeling of pain in my lower back that started that day. And in a few minutes of adjustment yesterday, the chiropracter corrected a "very common condition" in new moms and I feel like a new human being. Note to pregnant mom's: If it hurts, it may not be normal. Be sure you know. I can't believe I waited this long.
He also discovered what appears to be an old neck injury. He says it looks like I fell on my head.... I've questioned my mother and she denies any knowledge of such an event. I remember a lot of pain in a particular gymnastics move and he said it looked like an old gymnastics injury. He was shocked I don't have more headaches. Anyway, what you find out with a few x-rays.

I don't know how people handle nursing without chiropractic care. That one spot in the middle of the back that gets all the weight of the baby--ouch.
I've always been skeptical of chiropractors too. It just seems like everyone who goes to them always has to come back "once a week for the next one hundred years" until they're "better." Kevin, on the other hand, thinks they're wonderful. But I'm sure if I were desperate, I'd try them too. :)
The reason people keep going back to chiropractors is that the real point isn't just correcting specific problems--it's maintaining your body in its optimum shape for better help. I keep going to the chiropractor for the same reason I keep brushing my teeth--because I keep using things and messing them up! It can make a huge difference in comfort level during pregnancy--you really might want to check it out, Amy.
