from Ben's mom
Today is the September 11 of my grandparent's generation. If you were born before 1930 you can probably name where you were, who you were with and what you were doing on December 7, 1941 when you heard the news about the attack on Hawaii.
Here are some events I remember distinctly:
Mt. St. Helens erupts (1980)
The Hostages in Iran being released (1981)
Ronald Reagan Shot (1981)
Challenger Explodes (1986)
And of course...9/11
We had fun this weekend going up to my aunt and uncle's house in Everett (Sandi & Rick) where my Uncle Darold and Aunt Barbara were visiting. My uncle Darold has recently retired from the Navy where he was Chief of Naval Reserve Chaplains. He had a good quote from Vice Admiral John G. Cotton, who when asked why we were in Iraq said something to this effect: If we don't play this away game, the next one will be a home game. A good thought, and once again, my uncle reported that the Marines he met with who had been in Iraq described things there as going well. They feel they are accomplishing good things for Iraq, the U.S. and for freedom.

Good post.
I remember getting home from school and hearing that President Reagan had been shot. Mom had the TV on while she worked in the kitchen, which was never done - Mom doesn't like the TV as background noise :)
I remember gathering as a class for prayer when the news came that the Challenger had exploded (I was in a Christian school).
I remember watching the Berlin Wall come down. That was a wonderful, wonderful sight.
Thanks for reminding us!

Hmmm. I was only five years old in 1981, but I DO remember the Challenger explosion. :)
I remember Princess Di's funeral.

Umm...well, I remember the Y2K scare...that was definitely in my lifetime. =)
Age differences are such fun to tease one's spouse about. 'Let's see...when they landed on the moon...oh, sorry, that was before you were born, wasn't it.'

Yes, you picked up on an inside joke between mjr and me. When he passed the Bar, my boss at the time pjb said, "oh good, he's no John-John." When I asked him if he knew what that meant, he said "yes," he remembered JFK Jr. had some trouble with the Bar. Then added: "I remember Princess Di's funeral but not the wedding." And of course, I remember getting up as a schoolgirl to watch the wedding in the wee hours. :) rlr
