from Ben's mom
It is a rainy dark western Washington day and I was hoping to see some new posts from a few of my eastern friends. Then I realized what they were doing: primping, getting the kids ready for the babysitter, and anticipating the annual HSLDA Christmas party.
I absolutely hate to dress up and last year it was such a dreaded thought that I decided to skip my own work Christmas party at the last minute. But the HSLDA Christmas party was not to be missed. So I borrowed a maternity dress and went, in a complete state of exhaustion. I even tried to bolt out the door quickly but was called back in for this picture.
So what will I miss this year? Kevin impersonating Mike Smith's golf swing; Amy acting the part of a very pregnant homeschooling mother (someday I suspect she'll get the bug to try it for real); Sarah pointing out the chairs she saved for us next to her and Nathan. And a table or two away, trying not to think about how the kids are doing is the dashing couple known as the Jones. If we're lucky, Lindsay might make a surprise appearance as a guest--if her plane makes it in time. At some point, Earl Hall will do something really funny and I'll share a look with Rose that once again, he has managed to surprise me. And the best part of all, will be watching my incredibly talented and funny husband act in a Christmas skit, displaying his acting talent that is crowded out by his many other gifted pursuits. We'll all sigh and think of Will Humble's brilliant skits.
Hope you all had fun!

Ooh, good times. I sure do miss our HSLDA days.
Auld lang syne! It seems everyone else has as fond memories of those days as I have. PHC's parties weren't too bad, though. I can still remember Dr. Noe's deadpan commentary on what impressed him as a unique characteristic of the PHC students: 'Well, I think what you'll find is that most of our students tend to be very medium-sized. This is a good thing, as it allows us to have standard-sized doors, chairs, etc.' And Rachelle's take on who was the scariest personage on campus: 'We're all terrified of Earl Hall.'
