Thought for the Day

from Ben's mom

My mother-in-law gave me a devotional for new mothers shortly before Ben was born. It is perfect for a life that is constantly interrupted. Here was a thought for the day that made my day as I have done laundry, picked up toys, and comforted a stuffed-up boy:

The next time you drive through a road construction area, think about the women holding the signs. Consider how exciting and fulfilling it would be to turn that sign from "Slow" to "Stop" all day. Then thank God for the privilege of being a keeper at home. --The Hand That Rocks the Cradle

That should encourage all of you that are feeling a little monotony and/or meaningless, no matter what your job. (If any road construction workers stumbled on our blog, my apologies. May you find deep fulfillment in smiling at grumpy strangers today.)

Here is a Kay Hymowitz quote that I love and think is so true. You have the nobelist job ever, Rachelle. :)

“There is an emptiness in the soul of woman under ecstatic capitalism. The office, with its ephemeral projects, water-cooler intimacies, and disposable employees, cannot satisfy the hunger for enduring connections, for the happiness that comes from the passionate love stirred by an utterly dependent being, for knowing and being known in ways only possible in the private space of family.”
